Work Continues on Platform Construction in World Showcase Lagoon for New EPCOT Fireworks Show

While visiting EPCOT earlier today, we decided to check in on the World Showcase Lagoon project where Disney is working on infrastructure to support a new fireworks show. Of course, the hardware and infrastructure for Harmonious was extensive and obvious, but this new work seemed to be a bit mysterious until recently.

While new pilings continue to be installed in World Showcase Lagoon, some have been driven down deep enough to stick out just a few feet above the water. Some of the pilings remain at a taller height, but we expect all of them to be driven down to trimmed to just a few feet above the water line when the work is done.

Furthermore, it looks like the pilings are part of an effort to extend the dock surface area for the new show. An existing electrical vault is in the middle of the construction, while the pilings expand the footprint of available square footage above the water in the middle of the lagoon. If you look closely in our photos below, you can see what appears to be a dock installed on the water already. Something to keep an eye on in the weeks to come.

In the concept art below, we can see some fountains and lighting in the area around the electrical vault, so it’s likely that the work we’re going to take a look at today is in support of those fountains and lighting.

We’ll start with some wide photos, showing a mostly clear Lagoon with the exception of a crane in the middle to support work on the pilings and dock expansion.

Here’s a closer look at the work, and what we believe is one of the first pieces of dock footprint expansion.

Here’s a look at the construction area as we work clockwise around World Showcase Lagoon.

Disney omitted the new fireworks show from their recent Disney100 press release, so it’s possible that the show might not be done in time for a September 22nd debut.
