Tangierine Café: Flavors of the Medina Review – 2022 EPCOT Food and Wine Festival

Returning to the 2022 EPCOT Food and Wine Festival is Tangierine Café: Flavors of the Medina. Treat your senses to traditional Moroccan cuisine, like grilled kebabs and a falafel pita. Here’s our Tangierine Café: Flavors of the Medina booth review from the 2022 EPCOT Food and Wine Festival.

Fried Falafel Pita – $5.25

Served with Tahini Sauce

We’ll start with a delicious option and new twist on the ever-popular Falafel fries. Yes, while the falafel fries are not on the Festival menu, they are available at the nearby Spice Road Table Lounge.

Ok, back to the falafel at hand. A firm crunch gives way to a soft falafel interior that reminds us of the fries version. This is a nice offering that hits the mark!

Grilled Kebabs (NEW 2022) – $5.75 each

Served with Couscous, Tomato-Onion Salad and Garlic Aïoli

Each of these kebabs are purchased separately.

• Chermoula Chicken (NEW 2022)
• Moroccan Spiced Lamb

Chermoula Chicken (NEW 2022)

New in 2022 is the Chermoula Chicken. This replaced the Lemon-Garlic Chicken from last year. A solid chicken offering, the chermoula sauce felt more like a mayo than a light addition. It’s an ok offering if you’re looking for a quick bite of chicken, but we’d much prefer the lamb.

Moroccan Spiced Lamb

The lamb has the biggest portion of the two kebabs, and it beats out the new chermoula chicken on flavor too. If you’re looking for something a little more authentic, the lamb is a solid choice.

Stone-baked Moroccan Bread – $5.00

Served with Hummus, Zaalouk and Zhoug Dips

Moving on to the stone-baked Moroccan bread. The bread was nice and soft, easy to tear for dipping.

As far as the sauces were concerned, we found the hummus to be rather standard. The Zaalouk was a nice mild sauce that almost had a touch of sweetness to it. The Zhoug is meant to be a spicy sauce, but we also found this to be quite mild – your mileage may vary. The portion size here was pretty good, allowing for a sampling of each sauce between 2-3 friends.

NOTE: The Zaalouk sauce has been replaced with Chermoula in 2022.

Pistachio Cake – $4.75

Served with Cinnamon Pastry Cream and Candied Walnuts

Perhaps the surprise winner of the bunch, the Pistachio Cake had a light, cinnamon pastry cream and candied walnuts. The pistachio cake was light and airy and paired nicely with the sweet pastry cream. We can definitely recommend this dessert.

Fig Cocktail with White-Cranberry Juice and Fig Vodka – $11.00

Skip the beers and go straight to this delicious fig cocktail. An extremely refreshing drink that is probably more white-cranberry juice than anything else. We would’ve hoped for a splash more fig vodka, but we can recommend this drink.

Tangierine Café: Flavors of the Medina remains a wonderful booth to visit for some authentic flavors. However, the biggest downfall is how close Spice Road Table is – which is a wonderful option if you’re going to stop in Morocco. Overall, we’d definitely stop here again and can recommend you do the same.
