At least two different reports name Disney CFO Christine McCarthy as one of the senior executives who led a rebellion against the now-fired former Disney CEO Bob Chapek. According to the Financial Times, the campaign to overthrow Chapek began in the summer, with multiple executives approaching the Disney Board of Directors with complaints about Chapek’s ability to lead. FT named McCarthy specifically, citing three sources. CNBC mirrored the report, citing two people familiar with the matter saying that McCarthy was involved.

The CNBC report points to Chapek’s plan to relocate Walt Disney Imagineering to Florida as an oft-cited complaint. The CNBC report says that Chapek was caught off guard by the news that he would be removed as Disney’s CEO, but the Financial Times report says that Chapek was aware of moves against him for weeks, but was caught off guard by the speed of the events.

A recent SEC filing shows that Chapek was fired by The Walt Disney Company without cause.

Iger will take the reigns with a $1 million annual salary and incentives that could lead to $25 million.
