Polynesian Village to Grand Floridian Walkway Modifications Imminent as DVC Tower Construction Expands

We want you to get the most out of your ‘luxury villa’ stay in Solterra, Davenport (near Championsgate and just south of the Disney World Resort area). To help out, we have sourced the following blog post to keep you up to date with news from Walt Disney World Resort. Thanks to the guys over at Blog Mickey for the original post...

With nary a word on the Polynesian Village Disney Vacation Club tower construction at the recent D23 Expo, some might consider that a bad sign for the proposed addition, but crews are expanding the construction site as we speak and getting ready to kick the project into high gear.

Earlier today, we decided to head out to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort to check in on the project and found that crews were preparing to block off the traditional walkway between Polynesian Village and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort. As you’ll see in our photos below, there is a temporary change in the path, but we’re told that a more significant change is around the corner.

First, here’s a look at what it was like earlier today. The normal walkway between the Fiji and Aotearoa buildings is now blocked off, and guests are routed to a walkway between the Fiji and Tuvalu buildings.

It felt like we were walking right onto a construction site, but the walkway was still open for now.

The first-floor rooms of the Fiji and Aotearoa buildings will have terrible views for a while, and it’s likely that you’ll want to even avoid upper level floors as work picks up.

We didn’t walk the full path, but here’s a look at the approach to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort as we turned around.

When talking with the front desk, Cast Members told us that a new pathway is being constructed that will run along Floridian Way. This new walkway will ensure that guests can still walk to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and beyond should they want to. Cast Members did not know when the new walkway would open, but we’d imagine it will be days, not weeks. The new walkway can be seen in the digital map screenshot below, running alongside Floridian Way (yellow).

Here’s a look at the area from onboard the monorail. The walkway will run on the other side of the far wall and go around the construction site.

Looking into the DVC tower site proper, there hasn’t been much movement in the last month or so. We anticipate that there will be more to report on shortly as crews are mostly concerned with the walkway modifications at the moment.
