Piling Installation Expands To New Sections of World Showcase Lagoon at EPCOT

While walking around EPCOT earlier today, we noticed that crews are expanding the footprint of the pilings that have filled World Showcase Lagoon. Previously clustered around the existing central electrical vault, crews were installing new pilings some 80-100 yards away from the center of the lagoon.

Concept art released for the new EPCOT fireworks show doesn’t give much away in terms of the exact purpose of the infrastructure work taking place right now, so we’ll have to keep an eye on it as work continues in the weeks and months ahead. Here’s a look at the only piece of concept art released for the new show so far. In the artwork, we can see the bottom of high-altitude fireworks at the top of the artwork, with fountains and low-launch fireworks closer to the water.

Here’s a look at the new piling installation that we spotted, which included driving the new pilings into the water a considerable distance from the cluster of pilings that are already in place.

First, here’s a wide look at the Lagoon, with the work focused near the Germany pavilion, away from the central cluster of pilings.

Here’s a closer look at the process, which included driving at least four new pilings today, with two already installed near the Mexico pavilion when we arrived this morning.

Here’s a reverse look at the installation, with more pilings staged on the floating platform.
