Following the recusal of Chief Judge Mark Walker yesterday, newly appointed Judge Allen Winsor has filed an order today that establishes a pre-trial timeline in the Disney vs DeSantis federal case.
Here are the timelines for motions as agreed to by both parties and Judge Winsor:
- June 20, 2023: Deadline for rules conference
- June 26, 2023: Defendants’ deadline to file motions to dismiss
- June 27, 2023: Deadline for rules filing
- August 9, 2023: Plaintiff’s deadline to respond to any motions to dismiss
Essentially, the timeline establishes that any pre-trial motions should be completed by mid-August, and the trial will be able to continue from there.
As a reminder, this is the federal case where Disney is alleging that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has violated their First Amendment rights to free speech by using the might of the government to retaliate against Disney for speaking out against the “Don’t Say Gay” bill last year.
