Less than 24 hours removed from the final performance of Harmonious, crews are starting to dismantle the infamous barges that defined the show. While they were certainly spectacular at night, the barges were nothing short of an eyesore during the day, cluttering an otherwise tranquil World Showcase Lagoon. We were vocal opponents of the daytime view that the barges provided, but will certainly miss the spectacular nighttime acrobatics of the hardware during the show.
While visiting EPCOT today, we noticed that crews have started to dismantle one of the so-called “taco” barges, removing show support elements before the barge heads backstage to be brought out of the water. Here’s a look at the work taking place on the “Germany” barge, as seen during a visit to EPCOT this afternoon.
Here’s a look at other barges, which still have the lights installed on the top of the barge.
Backstage, a crane looms ominously to support the work when the barges are returned to the marina.
Here’s a front-and-center view of the hardware as it exists today.
It’s likely that the removal of the barges will take a few weeks, at least.
EPCOT Forever will return tonight, and a new fireworks show will debut later this year as part of the Disney100 celebrations.
