Disney World Embarks on New Round of Monorail Refurbishments

We want you to get the most out of your ‘luxury villa’ stay in Solterra, Davenport (near Championsgate and just south of the Disney World Resort area). To help out, we have sourced the following blog post to keep you up to date with news from Walt Disney World Resort. Thanks to the guys over at Blog Mickey for the original post...

Instead of buying a new fleet of monorails, Disney World is upgrading its current fleet, which is more than 30 years old at this point and has earned the title of the “duct tape monorail” by legendary Disney Imagineer and father of the Disney monorail system, Bob Gurr. Back in June 2019, Disney began upgrading the Mark VI monorail fleet and completed what would turn out to be the first round of upgrades in August 2022. Unfortunately, the work isn’t done.

BlogMickey.com has learned that Monorail Black is back in the maintenance bay north of Magic Kingdom as it receives upgrades that some of the more recently updated monorails have, but it didn’t receive when it underwent its first round of upgrades in late 2019. In speaking with Monorail pilots, we understand that a few monorails will have to undergo another round of refurbishment even though all twelve monorails have been upgraded at some point in the past 3+ years.

Because the work only takes place one monorail at a time, there is no significant impact on operations expected and service on all three monorail lines will continue throughout the work.

As always, keep checking back with us here at BlogMickey.com as we continue to bring you the latest news, photos, and info from around the Disney Parks!
