Disney CFO Christine McCarthy Rumored To Replace Bob Iger as CEO in 2025

We want you to get the most out of your ‘luxury villa’ stay in Solterra, Davenport (near Championsgate and just south of the Disney World Resort area). To help out, we have sourced the following blog post to keep you up to date with news from Walt Disney World Resort. Thanks to the guys over at Blog Mickey for the original post...

Following a report that named Josh D’Amaro or Dana Walden as possible sucessors to Bob Iger, a report from Deadline says that the top contender to replace Disney CEO Bob Iger in 2025 is current CFO Christine McCarthy. McCarthy would be the first female CEO in the 100-year history of The Walt Disney Company.

McCarthy, who has not avoided controversy herself in recent years, was said to be one of the executives who led a rebellion against former Disney CEO Bob Chapek and was previously CFO under Bob Iger during his first reign as CEO. McCarthy stirred up some controversy last year when noting that Disney might start cutting back on portion sizes at its theme park restaurants to save costs, but noted that the portion control “is probably good for some people’s waistlines”. Of course, that doesn’t come close to rising to the level of blunders made by former Disney CEO Bob Chapek. In fact, McCarthy has more than shown her chops during various mergers under Iger, and in navigating the financial hardships of the COVID-19 pandemic. Still, more recent results that led to Chapek’s ousting do not reflect well.

The Deadline report notes that McCarthy told the Board of Directors either Chapek had to be fired, or she would resign. Chapek was fired.

Disney CEO Bob Iger was brought back with a strict mandate from the Board that he must “work closely with the Board in developing a successor to lead the Company at the completion of his term”. Iger’s term ends December 31, 2024, according to documents filed by The Walt Disney Company. That means that while it may seem early to speculate who will take the helm post-Iger, the clock is ticking.

Whether or not McCarthy gets the nod in two years to become the next CEO remains to be seen, but she has certainly etched her place in the history of The Walt Disney Company.
