Disney Cast Member Creates Magic for Young Guest through Sign Language

We want you to get the most out of your ‘luxury villa’ stay in Solterra, Davenport (near Championsgate and just south of the Disney World Resort area). To help out, we have sourced the following blog post to keep you up to date with news from Walt Disney World Resort. Thanks to the guys over at Disney Parks for the original post...

Here at Disney, inclusion is for everyone – we all deserve to feel seen, heard and understood. One Magic Kingdom Park cast member, Walter Jefferson, puts this into practice every day as he communicates with guests who may be deaf or hard of hearing through sign language.

Recently, one of Walter’s many special interactions was caught on video and shared by a guest on social media. Check out how he made this young guest’s day (after their conversation, she said that Walter was her favorite cast member)!

Walter started with the company in 2015 as a parking cast member at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and is now a guest relations coordinator at Magic Kingdom Park. His love and commitment to learning ASL (American Sign Language) started when he was a kid and has since flourished into a lifelong passion.

“As a little kid, I was enthralled with sign language. I remember seeing a man who was deaf, and I wanted to have a conversation with him, but I did not know how or where to start,” said Walter. “In that moment, I decided I was going to learn sign language. It started with simple greetings and that was my introduction to the language.”

Walter’s dedication
to ASL has allowed him to connect with guests on a deeper level, demonstrating our
shared commitment to creating magical experiences for all.

“Learning sign language has allowed me to make genuine connections with so many new people,” said Walter. “As a cast member, it also allows me to help guests from all backgrounds and languages who visit our parks, and I love making a positive impact on their days.”

Walter’s story
serves as a reminder of the power of connection and the impact of celebrating
diversity. I’m proud to be part of a company that continues to prioritize inclusion,
celebrate diverse voices and be a place where everyone can see themselves
represented.

That's all folks!
