Construction Barriers Arrive at Wonders of Life Pavilion; New Play Pavilion Home at Epcot

We want you to get the most out of your ‘luxury villa’ stay in Solterra, Davenport (near Championsgate and just south of the Disney World Resort area). To help out, we have sourced the following blog post to keep you up to date with news from Walt Disney World Resort. Thanks to the guys over at Blog Mickey for the original post...

Some signs of construction have appeared in front of the future Play Pavilion at Epcot. The former Wonders of Life building (and more recently, Festival Center for various Epcot events), now has a construction barrier up at the entrance to the building. Of course, what you can actually see is extremely limited from guest areas within the park, so we’ll just have to assume that a barrier on the outside of the building means that some good progress is being made inside of the structure.

As you can see in the photo below, the skylights appear to have been painted over and possibly blacked out to allow for a controlled lighting scheme inside of the structure.

Here’s a look back at the skylights as seen during the Flower and Garden Festival when the former Wonders of Life building was used as a Festival Center.

And here’s the concept art for the Play Pavilion, with what looks to be projections on the dome. Of course, projection effects work best in low light situations, which might necessitate the blacking out of the skylights.

Disney hasn’t announced an opening date for the new Play Pavilion, just that it will be open in time for the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World in 2021.
