ChEARs to 30 Years of the runDisney Walt Disney World Marathon!

We want you to get the most out of your ‘luxury villa’ stay in Solterra, Davenport (near Championsgate and just south of the Disney World Resort area). To help out, we have sourced the following blog post to keep you up to date with news from Walt Disney World Resort. Thanks to the guys over at Disney Parks for the original post...

It’s been 30 years of runDisney miles, memories and magic and it all started with the Walt Disney World Marathon. We’re less than one month away until the 2023 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend presented by State Farm and we’re gearing up for a weekend full of 90’s retro vibes, iconic characters and a glimpse into the runDisney of years past! Speaking of years past, in celebration of this momentous anniversary year, we’re sharing a look back at the very first Walt Disney World Marathon that took place in January of 1994!

Growing over the years from just one endurance event to now four races and two challenges, the course has expanded from running through just three theme parks to now weaving the magical 26.2 miles through all four of Walt Disney World’s current theme parks. Check out the original course map:

What a start-line moment! Runners lined up and kicked off their 26.2 miles at the start line near EPCOT with spectacular fanfare.

No runDisney race would be complete without a themed
finisher medal. Though the design has changed over the years, one thing has
remained – a nod to one of our favorite characters to celebrate, Mickey Mouse!
